Kinesiotaping, originally developed by Dr Kenzo Kase, is very well-known in physiotherapy and in the world of high-performance athletes.

Facial taping is a relatively new and innovative technique that has been gaining popularity in the beauty industry.

Facial Kinesio taping works by applying small strips of tape to the face, strategically placed to target specific areas. The mechanism of this method is that the tape gently pulls the skin upward to separate connected tissues.

The kinesiology tape is called “second skin” and is an elastic cotton bandage, hypoallergenic, and water-resistant, moreover, the skin can breathe easily.

It is vital to understand that on the one hand aesthetic Kinesio tape can release the tension of the mimetic muscles, for example, forehead wrinkles. On the other hand, can support facial muscles work, for example after facial nerve paralysis. In other words, they do not stop muscles from doing what they suppose to do and this is one of the most important advantages of aesthetic taping.

Before applying the Kinesio tape it is important to do the allergy test, which can be done by applying a piece of tape on the wrist, where the skin is very sensitive, like on the face. If the test is negative (no allergies and skin irritation occur) the tape can be applied on the face.

It is essential to remember that kinesiology tapes can be used on the body for up to 7 days, but on the face is recommended 8 hours with a minimum 24-hour break before applying a new application. The best way is to start with 2 hours and check how to do you feel with tapes and then gradually increase until 8 hours during night time. It is recommended not to exceed three applications at one time.

Face application creates a lifting effect that improves the flow of lymph and consequently reduces facial swelling or puffiness and eliminates waste and toxins from the face area.  Moreover, increases blood circulation and importantly, the right application, smooths out wrinkles by reducing the tension of the facial muscles.

It is complimentary practice, to be used in conjunction with manual face massage and face therapy or with other facial treatments, such as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, facial cupping or face yoga to enhance the results. Moreover, can be a supportive alternative after tooth removal or after plastic surgery, to reduce swelling, and bruises and to improve the healing process.

There are some limitations to facial Kinesio taping. The technique is not recommended for individuals with eczema or rosacea, skin injuries, open or bleeding wounds, ongoing allergic states, dermatitis, or tumors. Additionally, the tapes should be applied by a trained professional to avoid causing damage or irritation to the skin.

In conclusion, facial Kinesio taping is an innovative and non-invasive technique that can provide a temporary lift to the face, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is a safe and convenient alternative to traditional facelift surgeries and can be used in conjunction with other facial treatments for enhanced results. While there are some limitations, facial Kinesio taping is a promising option for those who want to achieve a more youthful appearance without the risks associated with surgery.
